I'm Mikala. I've been behind the chair for over 19 years, and somewhere along the way it became clear that being a stylist was so much more than just hair.
True North Artistry holds three bodies of work: hair, one-on-one mentoring and ELEVATED.
Hair
The chair is where it started, and it's still where so much of the magic happens.
I spend my days behind the chair focusing on gray coverage and blending, lived-in color, and hidden row extensions.
I work at 1213 Studio in Plaza Midwood, Charlotte, NC, a collective of independent stylists with welcoming natural light, plenty of plants, and art on every wall.
After 19 years, the cut and color are only part of it. What you’ll get here is someone who pays attention.
Mentoring
There are three ways to work with me one-on-one, and you don’t need to have it all figured out.
The sessions that go deepest are with people who are open to what comes up and ready to go there. Maybe it’s a pattern that keeps repeating, a habit that lingers, or self-doubt that gets loudest right when it’s go-time.
My intention is to help you cut through the noise and make the shift feel simpler.

ELEVATED
ELEVATED is a social experience asking the question: What would be possible if you loved yourself more?
It’s not nightlife and it’s not a typical wellness circle. It’s a space to reconnect with yourself and meet new people.
A DJ sets the tone. I guide the experience from beginning to end. Come as you are. You CAN sit with us.
